PS Month: Playstation 3
It is often said that nothing lasts forever, not even the good times. Truer words have never been spoken. The Playstation 3 was the system that (temporarily) ended Sony's reign as King of the Consoles, returning the crown to Nintendo for a short while. The PS3 was most certainly the "end of an era" for the PS line of consoles, and I don't mean as the first Playstation console to NOT be the biggest seller of its generation.

PS Month: Playstation 2
The 1990's began with Nintendo on top of the gaming world, and ended with Sony in said position. The year 1998 saw the release of the first Sixth Generation console: the Sega Dreamcast. But it can be argued the Seventh Generation did not TRULY begin until the day the PS2 was released.

PS Month: The Original Playstation

In the year 1995, the console war between Sega and Nintendo was winding down, with Nintendo the clear and undisputed winner in Japan and North America, but with Sega the winner in Europe and Brazil. The Sega CD and the 32X proved to be fantastic flops, causing Nintendo to abandon their idea of a CD add-on for the SNES. This proved to be a big mistake; it meant they'd break their contract with Sony. To save face, Sony decided to enter the console market, and as they say, the rest is history...

Had it Happened: Nintendo Play Station
In our world, Nintendo's deal with Sony to make a CD based add-on for the SNES fell through, allowing Sony to make their own gaming console and changing the video game console market forever with the Playstation line. But, what if that hadn't happened; what if Sony and Nintendo's deal succeeded? Today, another hypothetical timeline: a world where the Nintendo Play Station happens.

Had It Succeeded: Virtual Boy
I'd like to present to you a hypothetical timeline. As you know, in the year 1995, Gunpei Yokoi, father of the Nintendo Gameboy and the man who practically invented handheld gaming (for all intents and purposes), created one last project for Nintendo, meant to be his farewell gift, his swan song before he left the company to pursue new interests: The Virtual Boy, the world's first 3D handheld gaming device. This timeline assumes that Nintendo, instead of rushing the Virtual Boy into the market, decided to test the device, perfecting it until it was ready for release.

What killed the Dreamcast?
During the early part of the 90's, Sega was one of the biggest video game companies in the world, and the sole company that could realistically challenge Nintendo's practical monopoly on the home console market. The Sega Genesis was the second best selling console on the market, trouncing machines like the Panasonic 3DO, the Phillips CDi, and the Atari Jaguar. In the year 1999 and Sega had launched its greatest console yet: the Sega Dreamcast. This console was nothing short of a gamer's dream. It was a system that focused on gaming, bringing out high speed, three dimensional gaming. It launched with several fantastic games, like Sonic Adventure and Power Stone. It was THE hot commodity of Christmas 1999. A year later, the Dreamcast was discontinued. What the hell happened? Let's find out.
