The Top 11 Best Moments in Final Fantasy 7- Number 1

And so, we cap off this list with the BEST moment in Final Fantasy 7. This is a moment that needs no introduction: The final boss fight against Sephiroth.

Let me not mince words here and get right to the point: this is the boss fight the player has been looking forward to since Disc 1. Doesn't matter if the player wanted to get back at Sephiroth for kill stealing President Shinra, if he/she wanted to test his/her strength against Sephiroth after seeing what he did to a Midgar Zolom (a mini boss which, when first encountered, is nigh unbeatable) or if it's revenge for Aeris' death. The point is, this battle was a long time coming.

This is it, the last boss of the game. Beat Sephiroth, and the game is truly over. But this isn't going to be just ANY boss fight! This is going to be a MARATHON! First off, the player must fight several super powerful mini bosses, around two to three, encountered randomly on the way down to the final boss. Once these bosses are defeated, the player fights Jenova SYNTHESIS, the last Jenova form in the game, and arguably the hardest.

Depending on how well you did against Jenova, and how long it took to beat it, you will face Sephiroth's first form, Bizarro Sephiroth, with either one team, two teams, or three teams of all your player characters. Every couple of turns, the game prompts the player to switch between teams, which all are attacking a side of Sephiroth (left, right, or front). Once THAT battle is finished, we go from this:

To THIS:
That last form is called Safer Sephiroth. Don't let the name fool you, however; this form is one of the most awe inspiring boss battles I've ever seen. And that's not even getting into his boss battle theme, which may well be one of the best ever composed. Here it is:

And once Safer Sephiroth is defeated, a scripted battle occuers: a one on one duel between Cloud and Sephiroth. No Materia, no tricks, no bullshit. Just two men, ared with their swords, facing down each other for the last time. As this is a scripted battle, you have two options: finish Sephiroth off with Cloud's ultimate skill, the Omnislash, or let Sephiroth get one last hit which triggers a counter attack. Either way, Sephiroth is done for.

It's really the best way to finish off a story: a climactic battle between the heroes and the villain, with the fate of the world on the line. No deus ex machina, no scripted battles until the very end, just a good old fashioned final battle. And if you're characters are all maxed out, Safer Sephiroth is guaranteed to have 400 thousand HP!

The reason why this is the absolute best moment in Final Fantasy 7 is because not only is this a fantastic final boss, there's also the catharsis factor. It's the notion that, all game long, the player has been looking forward to punch Sephiroth in the face. I've stated this before, just three reasons why someone might be looking forward to this fight.

Ultimately, what else is there for me to say? Scant little else; this is the fight the entire game has been leading up to, and it did not disappoint. After you finish this battle, there is little else to do but to sit back and watch the ending...which may end up confusing you.

And then there's the rest of the Compilation...

Thus, we bring this countdown to a close. How many of these moments will be preserved in the Remake? How many will be enhanced? We already know the cross dressing incident will be altered; the question is how, But no matter what happens, we'll always have the classic, the original, the best.

Next year, as of this writing, Final Fantasy 7 will be 20 years old. I raise a toast, to one of the best games ever made. And may our children and children's children enjoy this game as much as we did.

Than you for joining me this month. For those of you disappointed in the fact that I won't be doing the Top 11 Male Characters in gaming, fret not: one day I WILL do it. But for now, please look forward to December, which will be Uncharted Month.
