7 Ancient Animals that Would Make Great Pokemon

You've read the title, so you know what this is. I'll introduce the animal first and then explain just what type of Pokemon it could be. Most, but not ALL of these entries, could be Fossil Pokemon. Let's begin!

1. Dinichythis
See the source image
This fierce beast from the Paleozoic era was once one of the fiercest predators of the ocean. Surprisingly, there aren't any cheap sci-fi or SyFy movies based on this monstrosity yet, in spite of the fact that its very form practically BEGS to be put into some schlocky film. Anyway, a Pokemon based on this beast would undoubtedly be Water/Rock with either the Rough Skin or Strong Jaws ability. Like Aerodactyl, it could be a Fossil Pokemon that would not evolve; rather, it would stay as it is and MAYBE have a Mega Evolution. Let's call its fossil the Fin Fossil, and call that Pokemon Chomphish.

2. Eryops
See the source image
A weird little amphibian from the Permian era, the eryops looks like a cross between a salamander and a crococdile. A Pokemon based on the eryops would have to be Water, but I want it to be Water/Normal for the sake of having a unique typing. I also believe it needs the Dry Skin ability, and let's give it Swift Swim just for giggles.  Let's also say it comes from a piece of Amber, like Aerodactyl. We'll call that the Dried Amber, and call the Pokemon Protogater.

3. Dimetrodon
See the source image
Often wrongly called a dinosaur, Dimetrodon actually predates dinosaurs by a good 40 million years. A Pokemon based on this beastie NEEDS to be Rock type, but let's be creative and make it Rock/Fire. We'll give it a unique ability based on its dorsal fin: Heat Power. Whenever the sunlight is strong (Sunny Day, Drought, etc) this Pokemon's Attack, Speed, and Defense go up by one rank. We'll go one futher and say it's Protogater's evolution, and call it Crocofin.

4. Arthropleura
OK SO I REALLY, REALLY HATE MILLIPEDES! This is one animal I'd not like to ever encounter! In all seriousness, though, this animal would make a fantastic Pokemon. It'd be Rock/Bug or Bug/Poison, like Whirlipede. We could call it an ancestor; in fact, to get this Pokemon, Whirlipede must lay an egg while carrying an item called the Ancestral Incense. We'll give this Pokemon the Weak Armor ability, and call it Protopede.

5. Microceratops
This beast looks like something I'd make on EVO: Search for Eden. A Pokemon based on this animal would have to be pure Rock type, and would be revived via a Crest Fossil. It'd have the ability Rock Head, and we'd call it Dinotop... I can't come up with a better name.

6. Pteranodon
When it comes to dinosaurs, you have five species everyone knows: T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Brontosaurus, and Pterodactyls. Of those five, only two have Pokemon: Aeordactyl (pterodactyl) and Tyrantrum (take a guess). Problem is, when people think Pterodactyl, what they envision is actually the Pteranodon. A Pokemon based on the Pteranodon would of course be Rock/Flying, have the abilities Rock Head or Pressure, and you can get it from a Beak Fossil. Let's call it Aerodon because...why not?

Also Pteranodons aren't dinosaurs, they're pterosaurs. Pterodactyls are also pterosaurs, not dinosaurs.

7.  Dricocerus
Lets keep this short. This Pokemon is an ancestor of Stantler, so you need to breed a female Stantler holding an Ancestor's Incense. This Pokemon is pure Ice type, has the Abilities Snow Cloak and Slush Rush, and is called Zweitler.
