My Top Eleven BEST RPG's made on RPG Maker (and similar Game Maker engines)
RPG Maker games tend to have a bad reputation, mostly because the overwhelming majority of them are made by novices who overestimated their skills and forgot to temper their ambitions. Why are old school games so grindy?
The grind: every RPG aficionado is familiar with the term, and there's nary a single player who doesn't have a story related to grinding. For the two or three of you unfamiliar with the term, grinding is when you spend a long time gaining experience points and gold so you can be strong enough to pass through a certain part of the game. My Top 5 RPG Franchises (that are NOT Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest)
- A franchise MUST have more than one game in the series, excluding remakes.
- SRPG's and Action RPG's are NOT permitted, so no Kingdom Hearts, Disgaea, etc.
- Eastern and Western RPG's ARE permitted.
- Spiritual trilogies DO NOT COUNT, so no Soul Blazer-Illusion of Gaia-Terranigma!

Just for fun- An RPG With a Gay Lead!
Here's my idea. We make an RPG, because this genre is the one that allows for the best storytelling, and that just happens to be my specialty. Anyway, here's the short synopsis: You have two characters, the hero and his boyfriend. The boyfriend happens to be a martial arts expert and is teaching the hero all about some skills. The boyfriend gets called by the mayor of their city to go to the local cave and deal with a monster, so he takes the hero along to test his skills. This is the tutorial dungeon, and the boss is a monster with about 300 health.

What's "Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden"?
Sorry, I had to do that. Anyway, "Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden" is a Freeware RPG, released back in the year 2008. The game is a loving homage to the decade of the 1990's. Practically everything in the game screams 90's: Several products such as Duncaroos are mentioned, while others such as Ecto Cooler are integrated into the game play. The game stars Charles Barkley, one of the greatest basketball players of all time, as he fights his way through the forces of the future, led by the legendary Michael Jordan, as he attempts to save his son as well as prove his innocence from a crime he did not commit. In his journey, he will be joined by a ragtag group of heroes, including the great grandson of LeBron James, as well as an extraterrestrial who came beyond the stars to help save our world from an evil organization hell bent on bringing chaos and destruction to the world via acquiring an ancient, powerful artifact from the past...
